Leppington Estate

A residence where classical form meets expressive detail, composed, deliberate and unapologetically grand.

Overview

Set within Leppington, this two-storey family home draws inspiration from French Provincial architecture, reinterpreted through a contemporary lens. From its elevated entry sequence to its composed façade, the home is designed to feel considered and highly resolved.

Classical proportion, layered detailing and expressive interiors combine to create a residence that feels stately, theatrical and distinct.

The project included complete custom construction and structural landscaping on a 1122m² site, allowing the home and landscape to be fully designed and delivered from the ground up.

CHALLENGE

The brief called for a home that delivered provincial grandeur while still functioning as a practical modern family residence. The challenge was balancing scale and formality with everyday liveability, ensuring the home felt impactful on arrival but still comfortable to live in.

Careful consideration was required to layer classical references without overwhelming the design or disrupting cohesion between interior and exterior spaces.

APPROACH

The design is organised around a clear architectural hierarchy, anchored by a central bay that establishes vertical emphasis and street presence. A processional entry stair reinforces arrival and sets the tone for the home before transitioning into the interior spaces.

Classical detailing is expressed through simplified architrave, frieze and cornice banding, adding rhythm and structure to the façade in a restrained way. Internally, the home moves through a series of connected spaces, each with its own identity while remaining unified through proportion, materiality and lighting.

The ground floor is centred around open-plan living, with kitchen, dining and living zones flowing around a large island bench. A butler’s pantry and walk-in pantry support functionality and keep the main space clean and open. These areas connect directly to the alfresco for indoor-outdoor living.

Supporting spaces including a home office, guest bedroom, laundry and mudroom are integrated without interrupting flow.

Upstairs, the home becomes more private, anchored by a secondary retreat and a master suite with dual walk-in robes and a well-resolved ensuite layout. Each additional bedroom includes its own ensuite for privacy and independence.

Externally, provincial detailing is expressed through multi-pane windows, a herringbone entry door, tiled roofing and layered façade composition. Internally, cornices, lighting and a U-shaped staircase reinforce scale and character.
